Until for a few years ago the vintage culture in Napoli had been minimal. But Vintage stores and second-hand clothing shops are now popping up everywhere in the city. Naples can be a treasure for vintage lovers, where it is possible to find pieces from some of the best known Italian fashion designers! But knowing where to find these vintage items can be daunting and perhaps a bit stressful in the populous Naples. To make life easier for everyone who has an urge to find vintage and second hand treasures in Naples, here are my favourite stores. They are all located in the historical centre.
Frendo
Vico San Domenico 2, Centro Storico
If you are looking for a vintage store with an expert-eye, this is the boutique to visit. Located near Piazza San Domenico Maggiore in the historical centre, this vintage boutique has earned its spot as one of the most adored vintage stores in the area. Simone Frendo, after living years in London and being engaged in the vintage industry in England, decided to return to Napoli when vintage was little known in Naples. Frendo stocks vintage items from the 40s, and up until the 90s.
Some of the items might be a bit expensive but it is mostly outweighted by really cool and affordable stuff such as dresses, skirts, pants, jackets, accerories, shoes and the list goes on. The selection is mostly budget friendly and Frendo is always happy to offer his expertise knowledge of vintage fashion and tell you the era of each item there is in the boutique.
Frendo also designs and tailors his own stuff using natural and carefully selected fabrics. He even has his own studio inside the shop where you can see him taking on small projects such re-designing vintage items. Frendo’s passion for tailoring and designing and his expertise knowledge on vintage makes this boutique a worthwhile visit.
Vintage by Oblomova
Via Cisterna dell’ Olio 37, Centro Storico
Located right near Piazza Del Gesu, Vintage by Oblomova is stocked with beautiful and adorable vintage items from different decades. Although it is a small boutique, one might be surprised by what treasures are hidden here. Here, the prices are very affordable, and one can buy clothes by weight, with prices starting at 10 euros per kilo.
The owners of the store have decided to leave the original sign ‘Vini e Olii’ which gives this store a nice look and helps to preserve its historic character. Oblomova’s selection includes: silk blouses, dresses, retro sports wear as well as heaps of accessories. Oblomova by Vintage is not only a second hand store, but also a place that exhibits contemporary art works. One of the most popular second hand stores in Naples, it is definitely worth a visit!
Dada Vintage
Via Mezzocannone, 71 Centro Storico
Among one of the most established and well visited vintage stores in Naples, Dada vintage is a crucial stop for vintage lovers. It is well visited by students, locals and tourists. Keep your eyes open for classic Dr. Martens boots, cut-off denim shorts from all types of jeans, and beautiful silk blouses which give the boutique a colourful atmosphere. The interior of the shop is decorated with an old printing press, beautiful hats and also a wooden loft which creates a link to the past. Some of the garments even still have their original price label – a little piece of fashion history. A great selection and friendly and helpful owners make Dada Vintage a pleasure to visit!
Pop 21, Rock & Vintage Store
Two locations: Via San Sebastiano 39 and Via Nilo 25, Centro Storico
Located a few steps from Piazza Bellini, Pop 21 is a favourite among students and locals due to its very affordable prices. This lively two-story shop is overflowing with an unpredictable mix of clothes and accessories such as silk blouses and extravagant costumes. There is also a great assortment of denim shorts cut just right for women. The owner is always friendly and helpful making the store a great place to visit.
The owner’s second store is just a few minutes walk from Pop21 where you’ll find more second hand Levi’s jeans, skirts, jackets and shorts. The prices at Pop21’s sister store are very affordable, typically ranging between 6 and 20 euros.
