The setting is the waterfront along Via Caracciolo, Naples Lungomare. The time is now!
Rain or shine, the city will open the gates to the Americas Cup Naples Public Event Village this morning at 1130, kicking off a 9 day international sporting event that was pulled together in just a few short months and on a shoestring budget.
At a press conference held yesterday at Castel dell’Ovo the Mayor said
The city is preparing to host the event in the best possible way. There is great enthusiasm and the desire to be the host this event is clear. I’m sure that this is not only a sporting event, but it will be an opportunity for development that will involve the city on many levels, from world tourism to employment. The Americas Cup World Series will provide great visibility to the Naples waterfront and will show the world the beauty of our sea, beaches and landscape.
Tomorrow evening Piazza del Plebiscito will be the setting for the Inauguration of the Americas Cup Naples Event. Produced by Filmaster Group, President Marco Balich said:
The piazza is open… and all will enjoy this ceremony that was set up in record time because we just wanted to participate in this event because America’s Cup is spectacular and Naples is amazing.
The church and colonnade of San Francesco di Paola will be the backdrop for a show staring the Bay of Naples and featuring lights and 3D projections that will transform the piazza into a virtual aquarium. Created by artistic director Lida Castelli, residents and tourists will be able to participate in a fantastic scenographic effect that will lead the sea into the streets.
Highlights of the event will include the celebration and parade of the teams, entrance of the America’s Cup Trophy, the arrival of 4-time Windsurfing Olympian Medalist Alessandra Sensini, a reading of Eduardo de Filippo’s ‘O Mare by Peppe Servillo, the Italian Navy Band, and a tribute to Enrico Caruso and Lucio Dalla.
