The NY MET at the old Metropolitan Cinema
Thanks to Tricia Reynolds, Secretary extraordinaire of the American International Womens Club (AIWC), I just found out about this fabulous initiative, the High Definition Satellite Broadcast of the New York Metropolitan’s 2011/2012 Opera Season at the Martos Metropolitan Cinema in Chiaia.
Transmitting to cinemas around the world, this year’s MET Live in HD season will reach some 1600 cinemas in 54 countries which according to the MET is the largest global audience ever achieved for this type of an initiative. Transmitted by Nexo Digital, 42 cinemas in Italy are participating in this year’s opera season, among which is the only cinema in Campania, Martos Metropolitan.
The 2011/2012 season of “performance transmissions” started October 18th with the MET’s Premier production of Donizetti’s Anna Bolena featuring soprano Anna Netrebko (yes I’m a bit late on the uptake). There are 11 performances in all, ending with Verdi’s La Traviata on April 17th.
Shows start at 1900 with running times between 3 and 6 hours. Check out the MET’s 2011–12 Live in HD Schedule for more information about each performance.
