Ever dreamed about taking part in an Archaeological Excavation or wanted to discover the mysteries of an ancient civilization? Would you like to walk in the footsteps of the Romans and experience the world in which they lived? Here’s your chance.

Now in its ninth year, the Pompeii Food and Drink will be in Pompeii from 20 June through 10 July, 2010. An amazing opportunity, volunteers who participate in the project will “study” side by side architects, historians and classicists. While no “digging” is allowed, neither is experience required. Anyone who has an interest may apply.

Volunteers will be involved in sketching, measuring or photographing artifacts. The program also includes lectures on the history, georgraphy and culture of Pompeii, daily thematic lectures, a guided tour of the site, and a weekly field trip to the Antiquarium di Boscoreale Museum.

The program costs $1600.00 per week which is used for room and board, supplies and administrative costs. Room and board is at the Hotel Villa dei Misteri, a ten minutes walk from the site. Airfare and transportation to the site are not included.

Volunteers can come for one to three weeks. There will only be 16-20 team members each week, so apply as soon as possible. Application Deadline – May 1, 2010.

Session 1 – 20 – 26 June
Session 2 – 27 June – 3 July
Session 3 – 4 – 10 July

And while you’re in Pompeii, don’t forget to leave some time to check out the amazing city of Naples, and Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast.
