2015 was a fantastic year here in Napoli town, although it did have its fair share of ups and downs.  The year started on a very sad note with the loss of Pino Daniele, but Naples rallied, as it always does, and the year ended on a high note as a record number of visitors descended on the city during the Christmas holidays. We said goodbye to 2015 in true Neapolitan fashion, with a bang, crackle and pop… fireworks on the Lungomare. And unlike in years past, we got ourselves a room overlooking the fray instead of diving into it. Read more here…

Christmas in Naples 2015: Natività
This year’s Christmas celebrations are themed around birth, intended as a metaphor for the creative process in all its forms and in the strictest sense of the word.  Traditionally, “birth”, or “nativity” inspires art and local crafts, giving life to ‘presepe’ (traditional Neapolitan nativity, see above) works, which represent Naples around the world. The concept of ‘NativitÃ’ is declined in all possible expressive forms that the theme can generate, music, theatre, art, philosophy, science, archaeology.
Numerous initiatives will be hosted all over the city, particularly in the monumental sites, such as PAN, the Casina Pompeiana, San Domenico Maggiore, the Monumental Complex of San Severo al Pendino, Piazza Forcella, Castel Nuovo and in the squares, the streets and the churches of the city, with street artists, flash mobs of choirs, and folk and classical concerts, with focus dedicated to San Giovanni a Carbonara, Piazza Garibaldi and Centro Direzionale.  Read more here…

Minestra Maritata
It’s not too late to make up a pot of this Neapolitan Chicken Soup for the Soul, Minestra Maritata or A’ Menesta Maretata. Made for Easter, Christmas and New Years, tradition said it was originally served on Santo Stefano (December 26th) to ‘clean out the pipes’ if you will from the overindulgence of the holidays.  Read more here…
