After the success of Americas Cup, Naples Mayor Luigi De Magistris and Luca Serra, president of Tennis Club Napoli have secured another important sporting event for the city, the Italy – Chile match of the Davis Cup World Group Play-Offs.

It was 1995 when Naples last hosted a Davis Cup Match, but in September, the Davis Cup will finally return to Naples when Italy  faces Chili at Tennis Club Napoli.

Set in Villa Comunale Park along Naples recently pedestrianized Lungomare, they Mayor said “We have beaten stiff competition to win the Davis Cup but it will be a great show watching the match and during breaks, turning around to see the sea.”

The matches will be played September 14-16, 2012 on the outdoor red clay courts of Tennis Club Napoli. This playoff will decide which team will play in the Davis Cup World Group in 2013, which could be played on a court set up on Rotunda Diaz along Naples Lungomare.

Mayor De Magistris said:

I am very happy. This is a great success for Naples and the Neapolitans. Thanks to the Tennis Club Napoli and I say to the President of Federtennis that Naples will be found in perfect shape for Italy and Chile. Once again, through sport Naples is showing its best. I am proud and proud of what’s happening. Clearly the waterfront freed from cars was crucial for this award because it will be a great show in an extraordinary setting.
