Grab your running shoes and stretch out your legs because the 12th edition of the Naples Marathon – Napoli Marathon is scheduled for Sunday April 18, 2010. Organized by the Associazione Sportiva, A.S.D., the Naples Marathon is a 42,195 kilometer (26 miles) race. If that is just a bit too much you can run the half marathon which is 21,097 kilometers (13 miles). Anyone who will be 18 or older by Sunday, April 18, 2010 is eligible to enter.
The race will start at 08:30 local time from the Marathon Village that will be set up in Piazza del Plebiscito. The course will take you all over the city, heading southwest first towards Mergellina and later northeast to Piazza Garibaldi and finishing back at Piazza del Plebiscito. The full course route is available on the Naples Marathon Website. Look for “Percorso” on the left hand panel under Maratona 2010.
Listed on the IAAF-FIDAL International Calendar of events, the maximum race time for the full marathon is 6 hours and for the half marathon it is 3 hours. All non-Italian and non-A.S.D. Napoli Marathon participants must provide a medical certificate of good health from an authorized physician in their country at the time of registration. If you do not have a certificate, you can sign a waiver form provided by the organizers of the marathon. The form can be downloaded from their official site.
Registration can be completed online. Look for “IscrizioniOnline” on the left hand panel under Maratona 2010. That will take you to the active.com website. Look on the top right hand side and you will find a place to change your language to “Global (English).” You will want to select either Maratona – Stranieri (Marathon – Foreigner) or Mezza Maratona – Stranieri (Half Marathon -Foreigner) and from there you everything should be in English. The last day to register for the marathon is 15 April 2010.
Participants should pick up their chest numbers and race pack at the Marathon Village at Piazza del Plebiscito from 15 – 17 April. The village will be open on Thursday April 15th from 16:00 – 20:30 and on Friday and Saturday from 10:00 – 21:00. It is not possible to get these the morning of the race.
