Naples Alibus Airport Shuttle

The Naples Alibus Airport Shuttle is a cheap alternative to taking a taxi to/from Naples Capodichino Airport and the Central Train Station and Naples Molo Beverello Port at the city center and is more convenient than using the city buses.

It runs directly from Naples Capodichino Airport to the city center at Naples Molo Beverello Port, making only one stop at Naples Central Train Station at Piazza Garibaldi. You can catch the Naples Alibus in front of the Arrivals Concourse at the airport.

Due to construction, the Alibus is now leaving from in front of the Departures Terminal.

Outside of the Central Station on Corso Novara next to the McDonalds (heading to the airport) and midway in Piazza Garibaldi between the central station and Corso Garibaldi (heading to the port).

The last stop (or first if you’re heading to the airport) is Naples Molo Beverello Port  near  Castel Nuovo.

Alibus TicketA €3,00 Alibus ticket is required and can be purchased on board the Alibus (please note, bus tickets for Naples city buses cannot be purchased or used on board). You must validate the ticket in the electronic ticket machine on the bus and it is good for 90 minutes.

The Naples Alibus Airport Shuttle runs daily with departures every 20 to 30 minutes.

From the Airport

Mon – Fri 0630 – 2350

Sat, Sun & Holidays 0630 – 2339

From Molo Beverello

Mon – Fri 0600 – 0012

Sat, Sun & Holidays 0600 – Midnight

    Hi,

My daughter and I are going to Italy for vacation. We’d like to go Capri after Rome. We will take train to Naples from Rome. We have some questions.
    1. Can we take Alibus from Naples central train station to Molo Beverello port and come back? How many stops & How long does the bus take?
    2. Is Molo Beverello port for ferry (or hydrofoil) to go Capri?
    3. What is ferry (or hydrofoil) time schedule for Capri to Naples and reverse?

      Hi Huahua

      1) You can take the Alibus from the Central Station to Molo Beverello. To go to the port, the bus stop is located in the middle of Piazza Garibaldi on the right hand side as your back is to the station about halfway between the station and Corso Garibaldi. The second picture on this page shows the ALibus at the stop at the station http://www.napoliunplugged.com/naples-alibus-airport-shuttle
      2) Yes – you can get the ferry to Capri from Molo Beverello Port. SNAV and NLG operate Aliscafi and Caremar operates a ferry. You can get the links to their sites via this page http://www.napoliunplugged.com/naples-maritme-transportation where you’ll also find links to the daily schedule posted by the Il Mattino (http://sfoglia.ilmattino.it/mattino/pagpdf/parte.pdf) and the Port of Naples

Hope that helps and enjoy your trip to Rome and Capri!

        Hi Bonnie,
You are a mine of information. Can you help please. I will be arriving at Naples airport on 10th May. Do I still have to get the Alibus outside departures and does it still not stop at Piazza Municipio.
        I’m staying at Hotel Toledo.
        Thanks

Hi Mike – thanks! Yes, the Alibus is still located outside of departures area at the airport. Its new termination point is now Porto Molo Beverello vice Piazza Municipio. That means maybe another 5 to 10 mins on foot I’d say.

            Hi Bonnie

I’m coming in via a cruise ship at molo beverello with my daughter and mother, sunday september 1st, need to rent a car to get to my family’s place. Can’t find a car rental place in that area open on sunday, so have to go to the airport. We dock at 7:00 am and have to be back on board by 6:00 pm.

I plan on taking the Alibus at molo beverello to the airport and back. Where do I get it at molo beverello and can I buy the tickets on board?

Hi Paulina – As you leave the Central Station look for the McDonald’s to your right. The Alibus stop to go to the airport is on the street (Corso Novara) outside the McDonald’s. The Alibus takes you from the Train Station directly to the airport with no stops in between. The Alibus ticket is €3,00 and can be purchased on board the Alibus. You must validate the ticket in the electronic ticket machine on the bus.

I assume you mean the Poggioreale Market. If so it is on Via Marino Di Caramanico, just off Via Via Nuova Poggioreale. Last I checked, the market is only open Friday, Sunday and Monday 0700 – 1500 and I’m not sure whether or not they close down at all during the summer. The easiest way to get there would be by taxi. The other option would be to take the Alibus to Piazza Garibaldi and then take the Number 1 tram from there to the market.

    Hi

I am travelling to Naples airport next week, from London. I need to get to the Hotel San Francesco Al Monte in Naples. If I catch the Alibus from the airport, can you tell me which bus stop I need to get off, nearest to the hotel.

    Many thanks
    Paul

    • Bonnie
      22. Aug, 2012 at 12:28 pm #

Hi Paul, the hotel San Francesco is not on the Alibus route. Your best bet would be to get a taxi to the hotel as there are no direct routes via public transportation. If you want to use public transportation, one option would be to take the Alibus to the Central Train Station. From there, take Metro Line 2 to the Montesanto station, then transfer (a short walk) to the Montesanto Funiculare. Take the Funicolare to Corso Vittorio Emanuele and then its about a 400 meter walk to the hotel, which may be uphill.

    Hi Bonnie
i am flying into Naples airport and want to take the Alibus to the port and take a ferry to Sorrento. i arrive at 11 am. airport do i take the Alibus outside the arrival directly to molo b or do i have to change buses? Will the driver accept paper or coin euros? we wanted to take a ferry to Sorrento i read they are slower but a nicer trip than the Hydrofoil, the trip is nicer for seeing the sites. do i have to buy tickets in advance? all the web pages are a bit confusing and i can not get the english to work. any suggestions on getting the tickets. we arrive october 11,2012. and would like to go right to Sorrento. what i understand is we will need to get off the Alibus before the last stop? Will the driver tell us when we should get off?Thank you for any help you can provide.

      10. Sep, 2012 at 6:44 am #

Hi Jim – yes – you can get the Alibus outside the airport and no, you don’t have to change buses. The Alibus only has two stops, the Central Station and Porto Molo Beverello, which is the second/last stop. The driver will go past the port and then turn around and come back and stop directly in front of it. Pretty sure coin or paper is okay, but exact change I’m sure is always appreciated. At that time of year you shouldn’t need to buy tickets in advance and it may well be that you will only find a Hydrofoil going to Sorrento. The ticket windows are well marked, so you shouldn’t have a problem. The daily schedule is in the paper at http://sfoglia.ilmattino.it/mattino/pagpdf/parte.pdf.

Hello: looks like the Alibus would work for travel from the airport to the port–is Molo Beverello where we would get a ferry to Ischia? The port looks quite big…is it easy to find ticket window from where Alibus would drop us off? Or do we need to walk a bit to get to the right spot? And upon return, it seems as though we could take the Alibus from the port to the train station, correct?

    • Bonnie
      18. Sep, 2012 at 2:11 pm #

Hi Janet – yes, you can take the Alibus from the airport to the Molo Beverello Port and that is where you get the ferry to Ischia. Departing from the airport on the Alibus there are only two stops. The first is at the Central train station, the second at Porto Molo Beverello. The bus will go past it, turn around and drop you right in front of the port. It is not a very large port and you will find the ticket windows directly in front of you. To return to the Central Station, get the Alibus at the same stop it dropped you off and get off at the first stop, the Central Train Station.

      18. Sep, 2012 at 10:42 am #

Hi Peggy – There is a bus from Sorrento to the Airport departing with the earliest departure at 0630 am. I believe it leaves from the Circumvesuviana train station and takes about 1 hour 15 to 1 1/2 hours. This would be quicker than taking the train to the Central Station and then the Alibus to the airport. You can double check with your hotel, they should know. Here’s the link to the bus website http://www.curreriviaggi.it

    • Bonnie
      27. Sep, 2012 at 12:57 pm #

Hi Steff, Yes – you can get the Alibus from the airport and get off at Molo Beverello, but depending on how much luggage you have its a bit of a trek by foot to the B&B from there and a good bit of it is uphill. You can get a taxi from the port, but if you decide to walk, there is an elevator you can take up to Piazza del Plebescito at the entrance to the tunnel – Galleria Vittoria. From there, head towards the water and take a right on Via Generale Orsini.

    Bonjour,

    • Bonnie
      28. Sep, 2012 at 6:19 pm #

Hi – Its probably 15 or 20 minutes by foot and part of the walk is uphill. There is an elevator at the entrance to the tunnel that will take you up to Piazza del Plebiscito. From there you can head left towards the water and around onto Via Partenope.

Please could you tell me if children (a) under 12 and (b) 12 – 18 have to pay the full 3 euros for Alibus fare? I am travelling this weekend with a group of children of mixed ages.

Can you tell me about reductions/fare structures on other Naples buses/metro please?

    Many thanks,
    Ruth

    • Bonnie
      11. Oct, 2012 at 6:34 pm #

Hi Ruth – since there are a variety of agencies involved in Naples public transport system, the answer to your questions is not as easy as one might think.

First, the Alibus and Naples City Buses: According to ANM, the agency in charge of the Naples City Buses and the Alibus, children 0 – 6 years do not need a ticket, however, if you are accompanying more than one child 0 – 6, you must purchase one ticket for every two children (plus your own of course). I assume this applies to the Alibus as well, but it would be best to check with the driver.

As for the metro, Metro Line 1 is under the agency MetroNapoli and I’ve not found anywhere, where they specify reductions for children. Unico Campania, the agency responsible for ticketing on all Campania public transport says reductions for children vary from agency to agency but in general, children under 1 meter tall do not have to pay. Whether or not MetroNapoli subscribes to this policy, I’m not sure at the moment.

Metro Line 2 is managed by TrenItalia whose general policy is children under 4 ride free but are not entitled to a seat. I’m guessing this applies to the metro as well as their regular regional/national trains.

I saw the bus schedule that you posted, but am having trouble making sense of the timings. Considering we land at 9:40AM, what are some possible bus and ferry times which we may be able to catch?

    Many thanks!!!!!

    • Bonnie
      27. Nov, 2012 at 11:28 am #

Hi Tina – yes, the best way to Capri is to take the Alibus to Porto Molo Beverello and catch the hydrofoil to Capri. During that time of day, the Alibus runs about every 20 minutes, so all you need to do is exit the airport and wait for the next bus. As for Ferry schedules, you will probably want to check those closer to your arrival date. You can find links to the carriers here http://www.napoliunplugged.com/naples-maritme-transportation as well as links to the daily schedules published by Naples Port and the Il Mattino (newspaper). As an example, you can see the current schedule for NLG here http://www.navlib.it/linee/DettaglioLinea.asp?idli=3 but I suspect the schedule will change in the spring.

    Am visiting Naples in August and am planning to visit both Capri and Pompeii in one day. I will take the train to Capri, get back to Napoli and take a ferry to Capri. my questions are these;

    1) are these two trips doable in a day?
    2) am staying at Via Medina 17, Molo Beverello, 80133. Where do i catch the Alibus to both the train station for Pompeii and the port for Capri?
    3) same question number 2 above for when I return from both places.

Hi – I wouldn’t recommend doing both trips in one day unless you are very short on time and have your heart set on visiting both. The Alibus stop is right in front of the Molo Beverello port where you will catch the ferry to Capri. It is about a 10 minutes walk from your hotel. Another option would be to walk to the port, catch the Alibus to the train station, go to Pompeii, then take the train from Pompeii to Sorrento rather than all the way back to Napoli and catch a ferry from there to Capri. Again, returning from Capri, your hotel is about a 10 minutes walk from the port.

    Hello Bonnie
What a wonderful and informative site. You’ve answered questions I haven’t had to ask! I hope getting from the airport to the Central Station is as easy as it sounds.
Do you know whether or not the Naples Museum is open on Easter Saturday, please.
    Thanks, Heather

Hi Heather – just sent you an email. Yes, as far as I know they will be open, but do check back closer to the date to verify. Enjoy Napoli!

On the autumn of this year we want visit Ischia island.
Our traject from Ischia porte comes to Napoli (Molo Beverello) at 5.30 morning and we must be on the airport
Capodichino at 6.00 – 6.15 oclock. Is it possible ?
    Thanks for your answer. Alena

Hi Alena – the first Alibus doesn’t leave the Port until 6:00 am and its probably 15 or 20 minutes to the airport. To ensure your connection it might be better to take a taxi.

    Hi Bonnie,

We are arriving at Naples airport on Tues 26th Feb and have a room booked at the Piazza Bellini hotel. Can you tell me the best way to get there from the airport please?

Also, we would like to see Pompeii , Sorrento and Capri whilst we are there. we are there for 4 days in total. any suggestions and prices of trains/metro/ferry or hydrofoil please?

    ~Many thanks

    Colin

      Hi Collin,

Your best bet is probably just to get a cab as Piazza Bellini is not very near the two stops on the Alibus. I believe the Taxi per Tutti fixed rate will be 16,00 but you need to ask the taxi driver for that up front. (http://www.napoliunplugged.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/TAXI_PER_TUTTI_eng_.pdf).

If you want to use mass transit, you would take the Alibus to the Central Station. From there its about a 2.5 km walk or you could take Metro Line 2 to the Cavour Station and from there its about a 10 minutes walk.

You can reach both Pompeii and Sorrento on the Naples ↔ Sorrento Line of the Circumvesuviana Train (http://www.napoliunplugged.com/naples-circumvesuviana-railway). It stops at Herculaneum, Oplontis, Pompeii, Stabia, and Sorrento. The prices I have listed on that page are out of date. For Pompeii you need a Unico 3 ticket which is €2,80 for a single ticket, €8,40 for a daily. To go all the way to Sorrento you will need a Unico 5 ticket for €4,00, Daily €12,00. You could always travel by train, stop in Pompeii, continue to Sorrento and then take the hydrofoil or ferry back to Naples.

You can also reach Sorrento and of course Capri via ferry and hydrofoil. Depending on which carrier you use I believe the prices run between €11,00 and €20,00 each way. You can find most of the info you will need here http://www.napoliunplugged.com/naples-maritme-transportation.

      Hope you enjoy Naples!

In June I am arriving at Naples Central station at 10:55 am. Will I have enough time to take a taxi to the port and buy tickets for the 11:30 hydrofoil to Capri? Will it be easy to find a taxi? Is it safe? I will have luggage and my little girl.

Laura Lynn – assuming your train arrives on time, that should be enough time. Taxis are located directly outside of the station.

Hi Bonnie! your Q&A page is so helpful!

I intend to take the R2 (20 min journey) to piazza gardibaldi and then catch the alibus from there to the airport on sunday evening

I understand that the alibus ticket is valid for 90min. Would I be allowed to start using the alibus ticket for the R2 journey, which is actually before the alibus journey itself? and would you advise that?

    Thank you so much!

    Sarah

Sorry Sarah – I totally didn’t see your question until now. Hope all worked out okay. I would say, as long as you validate the ticket on the R2 it should be fine. Let me know if that’s what you did.

Again, sorry I didn’t get back to you in time.

Hi, I will be coming from Sorrento, thought we might catch the ferry to Naples. Can we then catch the alibus from the ferry to the train station to go on to Rome. It will be May 2013.

    • Bonnie
      05. Mar, 2013 at 12:02 pm #

Hi Lesley – yes, there is an Alibus stop at the Molo Beverello port. The train station is the first stop from there.

I wish information could be more precise. I’m standing right now at the Alibus fermata and it took me more time to find it than to get from Via Toledo to the port. The stop is no way near Mcdonald’s … it is exactly in front of Maschio Angioino and port of Napoli ticket booths

    • Bonnie
      09. Mar, 2013 at 11:22 am #

I’m sorry Andre but I think you misunderstood the information. The McDonalds was the landmark for the bus stop at the Central Station: “Outside of the Central Station on Corso Novara next to the McDonalds (heading to the airport).” The information goes on to say that “the last stop (or first if you’re heading to the airport) is Naples Molo Beverello Port near Castel Nuovo,” which is where you caught the Alibus.

If you are flying to Naples, you can take the Alibus to the Central Station and walk from there or you can take a taxi from the airport.

Bonnie: I was just on the website for Alibus and it appeared to me that the Alibus ticket is also good on the Circunvesuviana to Sorrento. Please check the link below and see if you agree.

    http://www.anm.it/Upload/RES/PDF/ORARI/C03%2012%20apodichino.pdf

If this is true it seems I can get from the airport all the way to Sorrento for 3 euros.

    • Bonnie
      02. Apr, 2013 at 8:11 am #

Hi John – it is good on the Circumvesuviana but only for band 1 (prima fascia), a U1 ticket, which is good for the towns of: Arzano, Casandrino, Casavatore, Casoria, Cercola, Marano di Napoli, Melito di Napoli, Mugnano di Napoli, Portici, Pozzuoli, Procida*, Quarto, San Giorgio a Cremano, San Sebastiano al Vesuvio, Volla. Sorrento is in band 5, which requires a U5 ticket that is € 4.10 (for a total of € 7.10). As you will be traveling from the airport, you might find taking the bus easier. The tickets are €10.00, but you might find it more convenient. http://www.curreriviaggi.it

Thanks, Bonnie. I am a retired US Navy person who will be staying at the Navy complex alongside Capodachino. It seems that if we want to make a day trip to Pompei we can follow the same route – Alibus to Napoli Centrale then take the Circumvesuviana but just get off at Pompei-Villa Dei Misteri? Does that sound right?

        • Bonnie
          03. Apr, 2013 at 10:58 am #

Yes John, that would be the route to Pompeii. Just make sure you are on the Napoli ↔ Sorrento line on the Circumvesuviana. Also, the Circumvesuviana station is reached via an underground walkway from the Central Station. Enjoy Naples!

We are planning to usage the Alibus in August, 2013 to travel from airport to central station. Will the bus still be loading at the airport departure terminal at that time? Is there a map of the airport on line so that I can orientate myself with directions before arriving?
Also, does the Campania Arte card cover the cost of the Alibus?
    Thanks, Michelle

    • Bonnie
      13. Apr, 2013 at 10:28 am #

      Hi Michelle,

The Alibus is still loading at the departures area and as far as I know it will be staying there for the foreseeable future. The airport is not very big, so you shouldn’t have any trouble finding the departures area, but here’s a link to a map of the airport http://www.portal.gesac.it/portal/page/portal/internet/inAEROPORTO/ServiziUtili

Whether or not and what types of transportation are included depends on which ArteCard you purchase. There are several options to choose from, so I suggest you consult the ArteCard Site online at http://www.campaniartecard.it/ and then check with them on any specific questions you have.

    Hi Bonnie
We’r arriving to Naples’s airport and want to go to Sorrento
which transportation is best. (Bus or Train and wich one?) Can we also take a round trip ticket to the airport? Many thanks

      20. Apr, 2013 at 11:45 am #

The easiest way is to take the bus that goes from the Airport to Sorrento – http://www.curreriviaggi.it/inglese/E_index.html. It runs about every 2 hours, takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes and costs 10,00 euro.

Option 2 would be to take the Alibus to Porto Molo Beverello and take a hydrofoil to Sorrento. This is a fun way to go but will take a bit longer and is quite a bit more expensive. 3,00 euro for Alibus and around 18,00 euro for hydrofoil ticket.

Option 3 is to take the Alibus to the Central Station, walk underground to the Circumvesuviana station and take the train from there to Sorrento. The Alibus ticket is 3,00 the train ticket is 4,00 euro. The train runs about every 1/2 hour and the journey is about 1 hour 5 minutes. http://www.vesuviana.it/web/en

    Hi Bonnie,
This is a great service you provide. Thank You! My flight will be arriving at the Naples Airport at 21:30 and I am going to Hotel Naples Hotel at Corso Umberto I, 55 in September 2013. Is it better to take the Alibus to the central station and then take the R2 bus or take the Alibus to the molo beverello and then walk. Which would be the quickest? Where is the connetion for the R2 bus? Also I am going to Amalfi town after 2 nights in Napoli. Do I just walk down to molo beverello and look for the ferry schedule or do you have any good tips.

    Grazie!

    • Bonnie
      06. May, 2013 at 11:20 am #

Hi Jane – Yes – I would take the Alibus to the central station and then the R2. You can get the R2 at the bus parking area in front of the station. As for the ferry, Metro del Mare is usually the way, but their 2013 schedule is not out yet and I don’t have any news on what type of service they will provide this year or when it will start/end. I would check their website closer to the day.
      http://www.metrodelmare.net

You might find a Gescab ferry to Amalfi from either Capri or Sorrento but I don’t believe they run very frequently.
      http://www.gescab.it

You can also get to Amalfi by taking the Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento and then a SitaSud bus to Amalfi. Here’s a link to what they are calling their Spring 2013 schedule. I would guess if the schedule changes for the summer, service would increase.

      http://www.sitasudtrasporti.it/public/tpl/campania/5070.pdf

Another option might be to take the train to Salerno and a ferry from there to Amalfi

    HI Bonnie:

You are great with info. I am planning a trip to Sorrento in August, but with a later flight arrival to Naples (22:40). Is there transportation that late in the day or would it be better to spend the night in Naples?

For the return trip, my flight is at 6:40 and I would be coming from Sorrento. Should I plan on a night in Naples or can I get transportation that early in the AM? What is the best transportation to the airport if I do stay in Naples? I am looking for an inexpensive way to travel.

Any suggestions for accommodations in either Naples or Sorrento?

    Thanks

    • Bonnie
      06. May, 2013 at 8:47 am #

      Hi Marcia,

Getting to Sorrento at that hour would be quite difficult using mass transit and getting back that early probably will be as well. If you stay in Naples you can use the Circumvesuviana to get back and forth from Sorrento and the Alibus to get back and forth from the airport.

Here’s a list of some of our favourite hotels in Naples

Hi, can anyone tell me what a taxi costs from the airport to beverello. Have used the alibus before but there are 4 of us this time and wondered if it wasn’t much more to get a taxi. I’ve read that you can show the driver the list of set piblished fares and agree a price as its more expensive to have the meter running? Thanks

    • Bonnie
      15. May, 2013 at 9:08 am #

Hi Laura – the fixed rate from the airport to molo beverello should be €19,00. There should be a tariff card on the back of the seat where you can find the rate. You need to inform the driver you want the fixed rate before proceeding. The meter could be cheaper depending on traffic and if you don’t have luggage, and are not being picked up at the airport, etc. Per the tariff card – FIXED TARIFF IS INCLUSIVE OF ALL THE SUPPLEMENTS AND IT’S APPLIED TO THE SINGLE JOURNEY, REGARDLESS OF THE NUMBER OF PASSENGERS CARRIED – so you will most likely be better off going fixed rate. Here’s a link to the 2013 Tariff card – http://www.napoliunplugged.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/tariffario_inglese-2.pdf
