The Museum of the Treasure of San Gennaro is a small museum located next door to Naples Duomo that safeguards the many gifts that have been bestowed upon Naples patron saint over the last seven centuries. It is a priceless collection of statues, busts, chalices and precious gemstones that is purported to outshine the Crown Jewels of England and the treasures of the Russian tsarist court. Unfortunately, except during special exhibitions, many of the museum’s most valuable treasures are kept hidden away under lock and key, however, the museum is a worthwhile detour for anyone with an interest in San Gennaro or religious art and iconography.
