The restaurant’s name, ll Cellaio, comes from the latin word “Cellarium” (Cellar) and refers to the traditional place where wines are stored. The second part of the name, Carni e Vini, simply describes what the restaurant is all about; meat and wine!
Il Cellaio Carni e Vini, is a seemingly inconspicuous restaurant, located in a fashionable part of Naples on Via Carlo Poerio 54/B and, as the name suggests, is a place where you can enjoy the finest quality Italian meats naturally accompanied by the famous wines of Italy. Quality is of paramount importance to us and our head chef Peppe carefully sources and selects the produce to ensure only the finest ingredients are used. As a valued customer, you can be assured that every element of your dinner has been individually selected to enhance your dining experience.
A Brief History
Il Cellaio Carni e Vini was established in 1996 by two innovative neapolitan business men who realised that Naples, traditionally the home of sea food and pizza, did not offer a restaurant where visitors could enjoy high quality meat cooked in the Italian style. Consequently, by early 2000 the restaurant started a new adventure offering Italian styled dishes of meat and cheeses accompanied by fine Italian wines.
The restaurant developed from strength to strength with the more recent history marked by the return of the head chef, Giuseppe Sommella – or simply “Peppe”, whose original and instinctive ideas have influenced the direction of this understated restaurant allowing the food to be the main focus.
Thanks to the enthusiasm of the new owners, a brother and sister team, combined with the professionalism and innovative skills of Chef Peppe, il Cellaio Carni e Vini is now recognised as the Neapolitan destination to enjoy the finest quality meat, discover tantalising regional cheeses and savour high quality wines. On a periodic basis, the restaurant also offers fixed menu themed evenings, where talented chef Peppe gets to experiment and delight with a selection of complementary dishes.
