Hello! And a very merry weekend to you all! It’s nearly Christmas! 😀
Here are some of the great things happening in Naples this weekend.
Also tonight, there’s a wonderful event at the Astronomical Observatory of Capodimonte, ‘At Capodimonte between Moon and Music‘ – a concert by ex-students from the San Pietro a Majella Conservatoire in Naples, and a talk by Professor Massimo Della Valle.
Also on Friday night, there’s an evening of traditional Tombola at the Centro Italiano. Tombola is a bingo style game, traditionally played at Christmas.
There’s a great charity show on Saturday 20th at the Teatro Mediterraneo at the Mostra d’Oltremare – ‘Un mondo di solidarietà‘, to raise money for A ruota libera. There will be many famous faces, including Maria Grazia Cucinotta, Peppino di Capri, Marco Ligabue and many more.
Also on Saturday 20th, there are two Extra Metro Art Tours, run by volunteers from Legambiente.
This weekend, there are many events going on as part of ‘Tu scendi dalle scale‘, an event to celebrate and discover the many stairways and hill paths of Naples.
On Sunday 21st, show your support for Naples’ basketball team, when Givova Napoli play Basket Brescia Leonessa at the PalaBarbuto.
MUSIC AND DANCE
Tomorrow night, Friday 19th, the Trabacci Organ Association presents ‘Coro Polifonico Beata Virgo Maria‘ at the Church of the Immacolata.
On Saturday 20th, as part of the Festival Internazionale di Musica Antica, there’s a concert, ‘I cantieri della voce‘, at the Church of Santa Caterina da Siena.
The many Christmas fairs around Naples are now in full swing and will run until after Christmas.
The Naples Antiques Market is on this Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st December. Whether buying or just browsing, the market’s eclectic assortment of antiques and junk will keep you occupied for hours and will make for a great weekend jaunt. The market takes place on the Lungomare.
The Campagna Amica Coldiretti Market will be held on Saturday 20th December (in Piazza S. Di Giacomo in Posillipo and Piazza S. Mercadante on Corso Vittorio Emanuele) and on Sunday 21st December (at Piazza San Vitale in Naples, Viale Campi Flegrei in Bagnoli, Piazzetta Totò in Rione Alto and Via Manzoni in San Giorgio a Cremano). You’ll find local products and healthy and affordable food with low environmental impact: fresh fruits and vegetables, wines, olive oil and vinegars, cheeses, honey, salumi, bread and bakery products, and plants and flowers.
FINISHING THIS WEEKEND
On Sunday 21st, there’s the last Sunday of ‘Christmas in the Saddle‘, a series of festive Sundays at the Hippodrome Park of Agnano. This one sees ponies, awaiting children, and traditional folk Christmas songs and dance.
Of course there are more events currently on around Naples, details of which you can find on our events pages.
Enjoy whatever you get up to, and next Thursday is Christmas day, so I think I’ll be too full of turkey to be posting! 😉 But come back and check out what’s going on on our events pages. Merry Christmas everyone.
