How are we all today? Right as rain I hope!
We’re starting with some music today. First up is one of the concerts from the Turchini series – Mediterranean Echoes. Friday 16th May at 20:30 at the Chiesa di San Rocco a Chiaia. Next we have the Arenile 20th Anniversary concert with Enzo Avitabile and Bottari. To celebrate the Arenile’s 20th anniversary, there will be a concert on Saturday 17th May at 21:30.
Japanese artist Yasunari Nakagomi is the artist in residence at ART1307 in Posillipo. In collaboration with his residency, he has a solo show at the Pio Monte della Misericordia, showing some of his works in a place from which he has been able to take a great deal of inspiration (looking at the works of Caravaggio). The exhibition opens on Saturday 17th May and runs until 3rd June.
Also on Saturday night – Night of Museums 2014, many of Naples museums and archaeological sites will be open from 8pm until midnight and admission will be just €1,00.
On Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th May, the Gruppo Archeologico Napoletano has organised special openings of the Roman Thermal Bath site, Terme di Agnano. Your chance to see some fascinating Greek and Roman ruins. Tours run hourly from 9:00-13:00.
If it’s sport you love, then what better way to spend a Sunday night than watching some football, with Napoli vs. Verona at the San Paolo Stadium at 19:45!
Finally, Sunday 18th May, Nutella celebrates its 50th birthday with a whole day of celebrations, culminating in a free concert in Piazza del Plebiscito, with Mika being the headlining act. Not to be missed!
And of course, don’t forget all of the May of the Monuments events this weekend. Here are a few of my picks:
Under a different light – guided visits in the dark: every Saturday of May, rediscover the Baroque monument of San Giuseppe delle Scalze (Salita Pontecorvo, 65) from sunset to light by torchlight. Each visit will be accompanied by concerts, exhibits, and artistic performances. Three more nights only: 17, 24, and 31 May from 1800 – 2200. Free entrance. Contact 339 2255494 or email@example.com.
Discover Gaiola Underwater Park – Organised by the Associazione Centro Studi Interdisciplinari Gaiola onus, a variety of tours of the Gaiola Underwater Park and Pausilypon. Return Saturday or Sunday evening for a Sunset Concert at Pausilypon.
Of course there are even more events currently on around Naples, details of which you can find on our events pages.
Again, continue making the most of this fantastic month of free visits, guided tours etc. and enjoy all that this wonderful city has to offer.
