I’m back again, and this week marks the start of a busy period of events, as Maggio dei Monumenti (May of the Monuments) has begun.
Maggio dei Monumenti is an exciting time for this great city. For the whole of the month of May, there are special events, guided tours, seminars, extraordinary openings of attractions and many more exciting things happening throughout the city. For the full program and more information, please click on the link above. In the meantime, here are a few of my highlights happening this weekend:
The mornings of Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th May (and all Saturday and Sunday mornings in May) take a walking tour of the fascinating churches and streets of Naples’ Centro Storico, from Calata Trinita Maggiore to the Sansevero Chapel. Booking is required and can be done by calling 081 4420039 or e-mailing email@example.com.
There are guided tours of the San Paolo Maggiore Church in English, Italian, French and German, every Saturday in May from 10:00-12:00.
Why not enjoy Naples’ beautiful Botanical Gardens and visit the “Plant, not just the garden…..” exhibition. The chance to see a selection of wild and cultivated plants, botanical rarities and exotic species, along with being able to buy natural food products and enjoy music, handicrafts, workshops and more. The event is on from Friday 2nd – Sunday 4th May.
If you like music, then there is a concert on Saturday 3rd May at the San Giovanni Maggiore basilica by the Euphoria Gospel Choir of a selection of gospel songs. The concert will take place from 12:00-14:00. For more information, please contact fondazione @ordineingegneinapoli.it.
Don’t forget, Comicon 2014 at the Mostra d’Oltremare. A fantastic collection of exhibitions, stalls, talks and more all based around comics and games. The event runs from Thursday 1st – Sunday 4th May.
Of course there are many more events currently on around Naples, details of which you can find on our events pages.
Make the most of this fantastic month of free visits, guided tours etc. and enjoy all that this wonderful city has to offer.
