Good day to you fine gentle-folk! (Happy St. George’s day to my fellow Englishmen!)
It’s all heating up here, both in terms of weather and events! The program for Maggio dei Monumenti – May of the Monuments 2015 is out, and it all begins this weekend! From 23rd – 30th April there is the ‘Prologue on Leopardi‘, a whole host of events based around Giacomo Leopardi, celebrating his life and work.
If you don’t fancy that, then on Tuesday 28th April, ‘El Médico Alemán‘ is being shown at the Cinema Academy Astra, as part of the CLA’s series of films in original language.
On Saturday 25th there is an art-history walk, which will take place in the area of Salvator Rosa and down the hill, as part of ‘Napoli: Hills in Bloom’.
Why not take a guided tour around the Castello di Arechi in Salerno. GAN (Gruppo Archeologico Napoletano) are conducting guided tours on Sunday 26th.
MUSIC, DANCE & THEATRE
This weekend there are 3 concerts as part of the Pietà de’ Turchini series of concerts: Thursday 23rd, it’s the turn of Davide Rebuffa, playing dyphone and Baroque mandolin; on Friday 24th, ‘Scherza l’Alma Ensemble‘ is in concert; on Sunday 26th, there’s ‘Mandolin Attitudes‘ – all the concerts are at the Church of San Rocco a Chiaia.
Every Friday night, at the Casa d’Arte, there is a date with Teatro nel Piatto, an exciting blend of cabaret, singing and theatre of the absurd, seasoned with touches of Mediterranean cuisine, orchestrated by Pasquale Della Monaco, to raise money to help restore and re-open the Villa Ebe and its gardens to the public.
On Friday 24th and Saturday 25th, at Teatro Bellini, there’s ‘Around‘ – the first theatre show in which a story is told through the language of hip hop.
Sunday 26th and Monday 27th see another of the shows in the series of theatre for children, ‘Teatro dei Piccoli’. This week it is ‘Arrivi e Partenze Ovvero Storie in Valigia‘, at the Teatro dei Piccoli at the Mostra d’Oltremare.
Every Sunday in the pedestrian area of Via Diaz, there is the Mercato del Contadino – a wonderful market of all the best local produce.
Every Sunday at the Hippodrome Park of Agnano, there is an antique, craft and flea market.
Every Sunday at the Fiera di Nocera Inferiore, there is the Salone Dell’Usato, a large, covered market, selling crafts, antiques, collectibles and modern antiques/art.
FINISHING THIS WEEKEND
The ‘Frammenti di Memoria‘ exhibition at San Severo al Pendino finishes on Monday 27th.
Of course there are more events currently on around Naples, details of which you can find on our events pages.
Have a wonderful weekend, particularly if you have Saturday off work this week, as we do here in Naples! Come back next week for more from Maggio dei Monumenti. 🙂
