Ciao Ciao!  I hope you’re all well and having fun.

This Saturday, 15th August, is Ferragosto, a holiday for most Italians and a day which falls during the traditional summer holiday period, when families finally get some time together and head for “fresher” climes!  But, if you are going to be around this weekend, then here are the opening times for the museums in Naples and Campania.

Don’t forget that for the whole month of August there’s free entry to the MADRE museum.

GENERAL EVENTS

Pompei, un’emozione notturna‘ started on 5th August, and runs until 20th September.  The project has been created to appreciate one of the most extraordinary and most visited archaeological sites in the world, which is offering the public summer evening visits, light installations, artistic suggestions and cultural meetings, at the ruins of Pompeii.

Estate a Napoli‘ runs from 9th July to 28th August.  This year it’s entitled ‘FemmeNa‘ and is an homage to femminine art and creativity, which are identifying traces of Neapolitan culture.  The events included are theatre, theatre dance, instrumental music, singing and writing.

Throughout June, July and August, there is ‘Cinema intorno al Vesuvio‘ – open air cinema at San Sebastiano al Vesuvio.

Every Saturday until 29th August at the Ippodromo di Agnano there is ‘Summer at the Racecourse Park 2015‘, the unique spectacle of nighttime horse and cart and horseback racing, shows and events.

Every Sunday, enjoy ‘Sundays at the Solfatara‘, a walk around a natural oasis, at the Solfatara.

The first ever ‘Napoli Expò Art POLIS’ event runs through July and August, 2 months of exhibitions, performances, themed evenings, with a continuous offering, full of emotions.

As part ofIn the footsteps of the Grand Tour, there are the following events: Every Sunday in May, June, July, September and October, for  ‘The Campania of Wines‘, there are guided tours with dedicated transport to villages, castles, archaeological remains and museums combined with winery tours and wine tastings between art, history and traditions;  Every Saturday from May to October, for ‘The Campania of Flavours‘, there are guided tours with dedicated transport in art places, villages and monuments combined with visits to producers to observe the production process, flavor workshops and tastings of typical products in order to discover and appreciate the Slow Food Presidia and products of excellence in Campania; Every Sunday in May, October and November, for ‘The Campania of Music‘, there are a series of events with guided tours to the notes of melodies that have enchanted and captivated the world, breaking down the barriers between classical and folk music. In melody, everything…  Starting on 28th June and running until 13th September, is ‘Campania by Night‘.  At nightfall the archaeological sites of HerculaneumPaestum, Minori and the nature of Vesuvius return to life beneath the stars.

MUSIC, DANCE & THEATRE

Tonight, 13th August, as part of the XXVII Festival delle Ville Vesuviane 2015, Enzo Avitabile and Bottari is in concert at Piazza Pugliano in Herculaneum.

Throughout the summer, until 20th September, at the Teatro Grande of Pompeii, there is the Pompeii Festival.  Thursday 13th is ‘Toscaand on Friday 14th there’sThe Four Seasonsat the Quadriportico dei Teatri.

As part of the Concerts at Villa San Michele in Capri, on Friday 14th, there is a concert by Gianluca Luisiwho will be playing music by Schubert, Liszt and Chopin.

At the Teatro dei Templi at Paestum, on Friday 14th, Gigi Finizio is live, and then on Monday 17th, Nino D’Angelo is in concert.

The Ravello Festival is in full swing and runs until 5th September, with so many fantastic events lined up.

E…state con noi 2015‘, the schedule of events over the summer in Capri, is now in full swing and ends on 12th September.  There are many events lined up, from music to theatre and even a Folklore Festival!

FAIRS/MARKETS/FESTIVALS

Every weekend there is the Campagna Amica Coldiretti Market at various locations in Naples and the surrounding area.

Every Sunday in the pedestrian area of Via Diaz, there is the Mercato del Contadino – a wonderful market of all the best local produce.

Every Sunday at the Hippodrome Park of Agnano, there is an antique, craft and flea market.

Every Sunday at the Fiera di Nocera Inferiore, there is the Salone Dell’Usato, a large, covered market, selling crafts, antiques, collectibles and modern antiques/art.

Don’t forget, every Sunday at 10.30 there is a mass in English at the Christ Church in Naples.
