For the whole month of May, Naples is taking part in the ‘European Cycling Challenge‘, a team competition between urban cyclists.  If you cycle in any way in the city, whether it be to get to work, or to go and meet friends, you can help the team!

Tonight, Thursday 14th May, ‘Cinderella‘ is being shown in English, with Italian subtitles, at the Cinema Modernissimo, as part of their weekly series of movies in original language.

May is ‘The Month of the Documentary‘, with appointments with documentary cinema, organised by Arci Movie, Parallelo 41, COINOR and Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II at the Cinema Astra.  On Friday 15th and Monday 18th there are evenings of screenings.  To find out more, click on the link above.

On Saturday 16th there’s a special event ‘Night of Museums‘.  The state-run museums, galleries etc. are open extraordinarily from 20.00 – 24.00 and entry costs only €1!

On Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th, GAN (Gruppo Archeologico Napoletano) are giving guided tours of the Terme di Agnano.  They will also be giving guided tours of the archaeological complex of Palazzo Ricca, for ‘The Colours of GAN: Blue’, as part of ‘Maggio dei Monumenti – May of the Monuments’.

Every Sunday, enjoy ‘Sundays at the Solfatara‘, a walk around a natural oasis, at the Solfatara.

As part ofIn the footsteps of the Grand Tour, there are the following events: Every Sunday in May, June, July, September and October, for  ‘The Campania of Wines‘, there are guided tours with dedicated transport to villages, castles, archaeological remains and museums combined with winery tours and wine tastings between art, history and traditions;  Every Saturday from May to October, for ‘The Campania of Flavours‘, there are guided tours with dedicated transport in art places, villages and monuments combined with visits to producers to observe the production process, flavor workshops and tastings of typical products in order to discover and appreciate the Slow Food Presidia and products of excellence in Campania; Every Sunday in May, October and November, for ‘The Campania of Music‘, there are a series of events with guided tours to the notes of melodies that have enchanted and captivated the world, breaking down the barriers between classical and folk music. If you want some sport this weekend, then the Italian Wushu Sanda Championship is being held on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th at the Palabarbuto.  Or if you prefer football, then it’s SSC Napoli vs. Cesena at the San Paolo Stadium on Sunday 17th.


From tonight, Thursday 14th, until Wednesday 20th there is ‘L’Isola Disabitata‘ at the Teatrino di Corte at the Palazzo Reale.

Every Friday night, at the Casa d’Arte, there is a date with Teatro nel Piatto, an exciting blend of cabaret, singing and theatre of the absurd, seasoned with touches of Mediterranean cuisine, orchestrated by Pasquale Della Monaco, to raise money to help restore and re-open the Villa Ebe and its gardens to the public.

On Saturday 16th, 99 posse are in concert at Arenile Reload, and Marco Mengoni is in concert at the Palapartenope.

As part of ‘Suggestioni all’imbrunire‘ series, there are two concerts at the Pausilypon Archaeological Site: ‘L’Odéon… Horn and Flugelhorn‘ on Saturday 16th; ‘Thus was born the very first chaos‘ on Sunday 17th.

On Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th, at the San Carlo Theatre you can see the famous percussionist Evelyn Glennie.

Also at the San Carlo Theatre, Keith Jarrett is in concert, on Monday 18th May.

On Sunday 17th, as part of ‘Concerts at Villa Floridiana’, the piano duo Genitoni-Taglieri will be in concert at the Duca di Martina Museum.


This weekend, 15th – 17th, the Napoli Strit Food Festival returns to the Lungomare.  The organisers seek to modernise and help spread the Neapolitan street food Culture, who’s history is deeply rooted in the city, its piazzas, pizzerias, shops and streets.

As if the above wasn’t enough food excitement for you, on Via Luca Giordano from 14th – 17th there is the Gelato Festival.

Until 20th May, ‘Wine and The City‘ is back, at locations throughout the city.  Each year, more than 100 locations scattered throughout the city including boutiques, jewelers, art and design galleries, large hotels, artist and creative studios, restaurants, wine bars, gardens, monuments and metropolitan vineyards participate in a relay of events around the culture and the pleasure of good wine.

On Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th there is the Campagna Amica Coldiretti Market at various locations in Naples and the surrounding area.

Every Sunday in the pedestrian area of Via Diaz, there is the Mercato del Contadino – a wonderful market of all the best local produce.

Every Sunday at the Hippodrome Park of Agnano, there is an antique, craft and flea market.

Every Sunday at the Fiera di Nocera Inferiore, there is the Salone Dell’Usato, a large, covered market, selling crafts, antiques, collectibles and modern antiques/art.


The ‘Winters/Smith‘ exhibition at Casamadre finishes tomorrow, Friday 15th.

Finishing on Sunday 17th is the ‘Opera Omnia del Maestro Antonio Tammaro “100 anni in arte”‘ exhibition at Castel dell’Ovo.

Also ending on Sunday, and also at the Castel dell’Ovo, is the ‘22 Double Two – Royal Bourbon Sites in Campania: The Forgotten Story‘ exhibition.

Don’t forget, every Sunday at 10.30 there is a mass in English at the Christ Church in Naples.
