Fostering cultural, technological, and economic exchanges, Unite the Two Bays is an exciting and innovative project that was launched a few years back by a group of Neapolitans living in San Francisco.

Unite the Two Bays …promises to create a channel for ongoing economic and cultural exchanges between the capital of the Campania region and the world’s major center of technological innovation.

Revolving around projects fostering a close collaboration between artists and entrepreneurs on the shores of distant Oceans, Unite the Two Bays mires to promote actions—such as Startup Boot Camps, Startup Schools, and venture capital tours–that will encourage startup entrepreneurship both in the Bay Area and in Campania and promote mutual growth.

Finally coming to fruition as part of 2013 Year of the Italian Culture in the US, the project’s first major initiatives will include two major events in San Francisco: the Meeting Between the Two Mayors and the Gala Dinner in June and the Concert of the Two Bays in October.

The Viva L’Italia Gala Dinner to benefit October’s Concert of the Two Bays will be held at San Francisco’s Fairmont Hotel on Saturday, June 15, 2013. The guest of honour will be the Honorable Luigi de Magistris, Mayor of the City of Napoli and President of Teatro di San Carlo. The evening will feature the San Carlo Theatre Auction and a special performance by Maestro Nicola Luisotti and Tenor Francesco Demuro. Tickets start at $375.00.

In advance of the San Carlo Theatre Auction at the Gala Dinner, treasures of the San Carlo Theatre’s Historical Collection will be on exhibit at the Italian Cultural Institute in San Francisco from May 7th – May 19th (open weekdays 9 – 5). “A rare opportunity to acquire a piece of operatic history,” works include stage costumes used in San Carlo performances; scenes, prints and photos; and original lithographs by Mimmo Paladino.

October 25th – The Concert of the Two Bays
A once-in-a-lifetime performance that will unite the orchestras and choruses of the San Carlo Theater and the San Francisco Opera house under one roof and one director, Maestro Nicola Luisotti, who is now serving as musical directory of both opera houses. Performing Giuseppe Verdi’s Messa da Requiem in honour of the 200th Anniversary of his birth, the concert will be staged at the War Memorial Opera House in San Francisco.

Other initiatives of Unite the Two Bays include:
