Cavalleria Rusticana
See Performance Schedule Below
Cavalleria Rusticana was the first opera
composed by Mascagni (although Pinotta,
staged for the first time in 1932, was written
prior, as part of Guglielmo Ratcliff in 1895)
and is certainly the best known among the
sixteen written by the composer from Livorno
(besides Cavalleria Rusticana only Iris and L’amico Fritz have remained in the repertoire of major opera companies). Its success was enormous from the first time it was staged at the Teatro Costanzi in Rome, May 17, 1890, and continues to this day.
